Complete Oral Exams, Including Exams for Oral Cancer

To preserve the health of your teeth and gums, you want to maintain a sensible oral hygiene regimen, which includes regular dental examinations. At Dental Dimensions, you’ll receive our complete oral exam. We check your gums and bone around your teeth for signs of periodontal disease. We examine your tooth surfaces for decay and make necessary recommendations. We evaluate the condition of fillings and crowns. Using diagnostic x-rays, we can detect decay, tumors, cysts and bone loss, and determine your tooth and root positions.

At the end of this appointment, you’ll have a more thorough understanding of the condition of your teeth and mouth, as well as all options for treatment.

In addition, we perform a thorough oral cancer exam during each checkup. Although anyone can get oral cancer, it occurs most often in adults over 40, people who use tobacco in any form and those who drink alcoholic beverages heavily. Infection with the human papilloma virus (HPV) can cause cancer in certain parts of the oral cavity. The oral cancer screening looks at the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues and gums for lumps, reddening or other symptoms of oral cancer.
